Family Melanthiaceae. Occurs in the steppe region of the central United States. Named after the explorer of the flora of the western USA T. Nuttall (Th. Nuttall, 1786-1859)

Plants 30-60 cm tall, light green, glaucous. Leaves arranged at the base of the stem, 0.6-2 cm wide, folded lengthwise, shorter than the stem, numbering 4-6. Flowers in a racemose or paniculate inflorescence, white, up to 1.2 cm in diameter; nectary one, rounded. Blooms in early summer. Tested: St. Petersburg, Moscow.
