Family Melanthiaceae. One of the most beautiful in the genus. It grows in North America in compact groups.
Plant 20 - 100 cm tall, with a glaucous bloom. Leaves linear, stiff, 10 - 30 cm long, 0.4 - 1.5 cm wide, arranged in basal tufts up to 60 cm high. Blooms in early summer. Flowers numerous, small, yellow-green, arranged in a paniculate inflorescence on a dense scape about 100 cm tall. Bulbs elongated, connected by a rhizome
