Obtained from: Бируинца х Восторг. Obtained at VNIIViV named after Ya.I. Potapenko, (Novocherkassk, Russia).

Grape «Alexa» – a new table grape cultivar, a complex European-American hybrid. Ripening period is mid-early; from budburst to full ripeness it takes 120-125 (131) days.

Vines are very vigorous. Shoots ripen at 56%. Fruiting shoots 71%. The apex of a young shoot is yellow-green, with a widely open tip. Leaves are large, five-lobed, pentagonal, deeply dissected, with slight cobwebby pubescence. Upper leaf surface dark green, matte, slightly blistered. Color of lower and upper veins light green. Petiole green with an anthocyanin tint, longer than the midrib. Petiole sinus with slightly overlapping lobes, closed, with a triangular or ovate opening. Lateral sinuses closed, deep, with a flat bottom and a triangular opening. Terminal teeth acute, triangular, with straight sides, medium-sized. Lower leaf surface with slight cobwebby pubescence.

Flower hermaphroditic. Bunches very large, up to 34.2 cm long and 18.1 cm wide, medium density, cylindro-conical, weighing 870-1150 (1600) g. Peduncle length medium to very long. Berries very large, oval, up to 32.5 mm long and 26.5 mm wide, average mass 10.8 g, milky-white in color, matte. Skin firm, edible. Flesh meaty, juicy, crisp, with a harmonious taste. Bunches without millerandage, berries are not affected by wasps. Retains on the vine for a long time without loss of consumer qualities. Ripens in late August – early September.

Has a high capacity for sugar accumulation.

Yield in non-covered culture is 136.8 centners/ha.

Sugar content 17.1 g/100 cm³, with acidity 7.1 g/dm³.

Tasting score of fresh crop – 8.2 points.

Fruiting coefficient 1.2-1.4.

Winter hardiness zone: -25°C

Site: Not demanding regarding soil, but grows better on light, sufficiently moist ground. Plant is drought-resistant.

Planting and care: similar to that for cultivated grape. Planting scheme: 3 x 0.75 m

Pruning: medium pruning, to 6-8 buds. On one vine from 30 to 40 shoots.

Training: trunk fan system with trunk height 80-100 cm.

Diseases and pests: Resistance to downy mildew – 2.5 points, gray rot – 1 point, powdery mildew – 3.0 points, root phylloxera – 3.5 points, leaf phylloxera – 1.5 points. It is recommended to carry out 1-2 preventive treatments against powdery mildew and downy mildew.

Propagation: cuttings root well. Has proven successful in both own-root and grafted culture.

Use: Fruits are consumed fresh, have high transportability and excellent marketable appearance. Can be stored in a refrigerator for a long time without loss of taste and market qualities. Recommended for cultivation in non-covered culture. Suitable for local consumption and transport.
