Obtained from: Talisman x Kishmish Luchistyi. Amateur selection. Breeder – Kraynov V.N., Novocherkassk, Russia.
Grape 'Antony the Great' is a hybrid form of table grape of mid-early ripening. From budbreak to full ripening takes 125-130 (130-140) days. In Luhansk it ripens in early–mid September (mid–late August).
Shoots are of medium vigor, the cane ripens well, more than 2/3 of its length. Flower is hermaphrodite. Pollinates very well.
Clusters large, cylindro-conical, medium density. Average cluster weight reaches 600-800 (1500-2000) g. Berries round, large, 12-18 g, 30x28 mm, amber-yellow in color, covered with a light wax bloom. Flesh of medium density, fleshy, juicy, flavor harmonious, pleasant, refreshing, slightly muscat-like. Not affected by wasps, berries do not crack. No millerandage observed. Can remain on the vine for a fairly long time without losing marketable appearance and flavor.
Yield high and stable, more than 6 kg per vine.
Hardiness zone: 6a (buds in the eyes withstand down to -23 °C)
Site: not demanding on soil, but grows better on light, sufficiently moist ground. Plant is drought-tolerant.
Planting and care: same as for cultivated grape.
Pruning: vines are vigorous. Pruning moderate – to 6-8 buds. Plant load is 24-30 buds per vine. Shoot load – 10-12.
Diseases and pests: Disease resistance 2.5-3.0 points.
Propagation: cuttings root moderately to well. Well compatible with many rootstocks.
Use: Fruits are consumed fresh, have good transportability and excellent marketable appearance.
