Grape Kuanye or Japanese
Vitis coignetiae
Family: Vitaceae. Very striking, frost-hardy, vigorous climber native to northern Japan, with large, heart-shaped to rounded leaves (up to 30 cm across), with 3–5 weakly expressed lobes, dark green above, grayish- or reddish-pubescent beneath, with a rarely finely toothed margin.
Inflorescences are short. Fruits up to 0.8 cm, black with a glaucous bloom, edible only after freezing. Grows very quickly, producing growth up to 4.5 m in a season, frost-hardy. Used in all types of vertical greening, especially for decorating tall structures.
