Grape Original (Vitis) – a table-type hybrid form of grape of mid-late ripening (135-145 days). Obtained by crossing the table varieties Дамасская роза and Датье де Сен-Валье. It was entered into the State Register of Plants of Ukraine in 2002. "Original" is predominantly zoned in the Odesa region. Breeders: Ефремов В.А., Докучаева Е.Н., Мелешко Л.Ф., Тулаева М.И., Дашкевич А.В., Самборская А.К., Тарахтий Л.И., Шейн Т.В.

Vines vigorous. Leaves large, five-lobed, deeply dissected. Flowers hermaphroditic. Shoot ripening good.

Clusters large, 400-600 g, conical or cylindro-conical, loose and of moderate density. Berries large to very large, 30 x 22 mm, oblong-ovoid or nipple-shaped, with pointed tips and constriction, white-pink and pink in the sun, of an original decorative appearance, skin firm. Flesh meaty-juicy, crisp. Flavor pleasant, with a slight muscat aroma, tasting score 8.6 points. Sugar content 19-21%, acidity 5-6 g/L. Yield: 112 centners/ha.

Cold hardiness zone: 5-8 (-21°C). Bud burst up to 65%. Requires winter covering.

Site: not demanding as to soil, but grows better on light, well-warmed and well-drained ground.

Planting and care: similar to that for cultivated grape. Use of gibberellin after fruit set is recommended to increase berry size and to even out berry size. Spacing between vines at least 2.5-3 m. Responsive to high-level viticultural practices and performs better on strong training systems with a large reserve of old wood.

Pruning: Fruiting shoots 65-80%, fruitfulness coefficient 1.2-1.7. Fruiting canes are pruned to 8-12 buds. Vine load 45-60 buds with subsequent removal of excess shoots during the first thinning.

Diseases and pests: resistant to downy mildew. Tolerant to phylloxera, rot, and powdery mildew.

Propagation: Rooting of cuttings average, graft union compatibility with rootstocks good.

Use: suitable for cultivation in the southern regions of Ukraine. Can be used for commercial production.
