Parentage: Moldova x Cardinal. Developed at AZOSViV (VNIIViV named after Ya.I. Potapenko), Russia.

Grape «Nadezhda AZOS» – one of the best grape varieties that can be considered part of the "Golden Fund" of Soviet grape varieties. A table grape variety of mid-early ripening. Berries ripen mainly in the second or at the beginning of the third ten-day period of August. Ripening period 120-130 days. Variety of the intensive type.

Vines vigorous, fast-growing. Flower hermaphroditic. Leaves smooth, medium-sized, dark green, three- or five-lobed, with a smooth surface and with an open, lyre-shaped petiole sinus with a pointed bottom. Pubescence between the veins dense, cobwebby.

Clusters of medium density or loose, branching or conical, average weight 400-600 g, sometimes up to 1.1 kg. Berries elongated-oval, blue, almost black in color, of simple harmonious flavor, weighing 6-8 (10) g, size 28 x 24 mm, covered with a light wax bloom. Flesh meaty, crunchy, moderately firm. Taste sweet, pleasant, dessert-like. Skin sturdy, thin, edible. When refrigerated, ripe grapes can be stored for up to 2 weeks.

Sugar content 15-17%, with acidity 7-8 g/l. Yield high and stable, reaches 160 centners/ha.

Cold hardiness zone: 6a (buds in the eyes withstand down to -22 °C)

Site: not demanding of soil, but grows better on light, sufficiently moist ground. The plant is drought-tolerant.

Planting and care: similar to that for cultivated grape. Winter covering is desirable.

Pruning: any training system may be used. Prone to overcropping. There are 1.6 inflorescences per shoot. Prune to 5-6 buds. Bud load moderate.

Diseases and pests: Resistance to downy mildew – 4 points, to powdery mildew – 4 points, to gray rot – 2 points.

Propagation: cuttings root poorly. Well compatible with many rootstocks.

Uses: can be used in commercial plantations as well as for amateur cultivation. Berries have high marketability and transportability.
