Family Violaceae. Pharmaceutical name: herb of sweet violet - Violae odoratae herba (formerly: Herba Violae odoratae).
Botanical description. A perennial plant with a creeping, spreading rhizome, from which flower stalks and rooting shoots arise. Leaves are petiolate, heart-shaped. Single flowers are colored deep violet, less often white or reddish, with a pleasant fragrance; sometimes small stipules occur on the flower stalk. Fruit is a capsule with small seeds. It flowers from March to April (May). Grows by fences, in hedgerows and on forest edges.
