Victoria

Back to catalogue
Family: water-lilies. Victoria (Victoria) is a plant of the family Water-lilies - Nymphaeaceae. Plants of the genus Victoria grow in South America in the waters of the Amazon River, preferring flooded areas and quiet backwaters.

Uses: for decorating large pools in specially equipped facilities.

Victoria are beautiful ornamental plants, striking with their huge floating leaves, reaching 2.5-3 m in diameter in their native range.

The edges of the leaves are turned up vertically. On the underside of Victoria's leaf numerous thick veins project, between which air bubbles are retained, thanks to which the leaves are firmly held on the water surface. The leaves of Victoria can support a 5-6-year-old child. The flowers of Victoria reach 30 cm in diameter. The flower opens in the evening. The petals are snow-white.

In the morning the flower closes and opens again in the evening, but the color of the petals becomes pink, turning dark red by morning.

This completes the flowering of one flower. The flower sinks into the water, where the seeds ripen. On the second day of flowering artificial pollination of the flowers is necessary. The seed ripening period lasts about 2 months. Seeds remain viable for several years. It is recommended to store seeds in distilled water at a temperature of 5-7° C. The water should be changed frequently and the seeds rinsed.
