Vallotta

Back to catalogue
Family Amaryllidaceae. Origin - southern Africa. In cultivation the species Vallotta speciosa is widespread. A beautiful perennial bulbous plant with flowers gathered in an umbel on a long scape. Leaves are dark green, reddish at the base, linear in shape up to 65 cm long and 3.5 cm wide. Vallotta blooms in summer and autumn. There are cultivars with bright red, white, pink (salmon) flowers.

Overall Vallotta is an undemanding plant, however it has its preferences. In particular, Vallotta does not like very high temperatures in summer - above 25°C; in that case it should be moved to a cooler place.

A sharp drop in temperature at night, or drafts, can also be detrimental to the plant, especially if it stands on a balcony.
