Synonyms: Vaccinium vitis-idaea 'Meliro'
Lingonberry Miss Cherry– a high-yielding lingonberry cultivar. It was developed in 2002 by Maarten Bloemen and named Vaccinium vitis-idaea 'Meliro' (the name is composed from the first two letters of the daughters' names MErijn – LIndy – ROsanne). In 2010 it was renamed Vaccinium vitis-idaea Miss Cherry.
It is a compact small shrub 25–35 cm in height. It flowers early; in May–June it is densely covered with small flowers. It fruits abundantly from August to September. The fruits are small red berries of rounded shape with a slightly tart taste.
Cold hardiness: down to -46°C.
Location: prefers sunny sites. Soil must be acidic (pH 3–5).
Planting, pruning and care: similar to those for lingonberry.
Diseases and pests: resistance to diseases is very high.
Propagation: cuttings root well
Uses: the berries are eaten fresh and used to make jams, preserves, morses, marinades, and candies. Used for decorating terraces and patios. For creating arrangements with fruits and berries. It also looks very striking in the garden during the winter period.
