Ваккария

Vaccaria

Back to catalogue

Family: carnation family. Annual plant.

It has sturdy, knobby, smooth stems with a waxy bloom 47 - 69 cm tall. Leaves narrow, with a silvery tint. Flowers 2 - 2.7 cm in diameter, similar to the flowers of annual gypsophila, but larger. The corolla color is most often pink, but can also be white. Grows rapidly and begins to flower in late June. Blooms very abundantly, but not for long, 25 - 35 days.

Location: ваккария is light-loving, cold-hardy, moisture-loving, prefers non-acidic loamy soils.

Propagation: by seeds. Seeds are not very small; there are 1б0 - 200 pcs per 1 g. To obtain 100 plants, 1 g of seeds is needed. Sow them into the ground early in spring, not densely. Shoots appear uniformly after 7-9 days. They are thinned, leaving 8 - 10 cm between plants. If flowering ваккария is regularly needed for bouquets, repeat sowings can be done 15-18 days after the previous one. Then flowers will be available until late frosts.
