Flowers for the garden
Downy periwinkle
V. pubescens
Family Kutrovye. Grows in the shaded forests of the coastal zone of the western Caucasus.
The growing creeping shoots root at points of contact with the soil. By late summer almost all nodes in the middle and upper parts of the shoot are rooted. The flowering shoots lift up, creating a loose groundcover formed by the downy periwinkle. Flowers solitary, 3 - 3.5 cm in diameter. Blooms from May to June for 25-30 days. Leaves do not overwinter.
