Family Colchicaceae. Grows in moist forests and shrubby thickets in eastern North America.

A species closely related to U. grandiflora. Forms clumps of graceful thin stems with 2 - 4 oval leaves that clasp the stem. Flowers pale yellow, narrow, bell-shaped, 2-3 cm long, 1-2 on each branch of the shoot, fragrant. Flowers in late May - early June, seed set rare and poor. Cold-hardy without protection.
