Large-flowered Uvularia
Uvularia grandiflora Smith
Family Colchicaceae. Found in eastern North America except Florida. Grows in broad-leaved forests. The most beautiful species of the genus.
Bushy plant with numerous stems 40 - 50 cm high and acute-elliptic stem-clasping leaves slightly pubescent on the inner side up to 10 cm long; at the ends of the branches are 2-3 flowers of bright yellow color, bell-shaped, about 4 cm long. Anthers are blunt. The plant blooms from mid to late May. Seeds are few.
Quite winter-hardy. Covering with dry leaves is recommended only in snowless winters.
