Purple apple

М. х рurpurea

Back to catalogue

Family Rosaceae. Description: This is a hybrid between Niedzwetzky's apple and the blood-red apple (M. niedzwetskyana x M. atrosanguinea). There are a large number of purple apple cultivars with varying degrees of leaf coloration in dark red.

Primarily these are small trees (height about 4-5 m) with burgundy young leaves and shoots. In some cultivars the leaves become completely green over time, in others they remain a deep purple or reddish shade throughout the summer.
