Family: walnut family. Native to North America. Considered among the most valuable tree species for urban greening. A beautiful, powerful tree up to 50 m tall with a broad-spreading, low-hanging crown. More shade-tolerant than the gray walnut, but less cold-hardy. Mature trees tolerate temperature drops down to -28 °C without damage. Develops well only on deep, fertile soils; tolerates short-term flooding. Air dryness is tolerated more easily than by the gray walnut.
