Turchaninov's hornbeam

Family Betulaceae. Eastern Asia. Grows as part of mountain forests. Mesophyte, mesothermal. In cultivation since 1889, rarely grown in collections of European botanical gardens.

Tree up to 5 m tall. At 25 years grows in a bushy form, height 1.1 m, diameter of the crown 140 cm. Active growth from mid-May to mid-October. Growth rate low. Does not flower. Propagated by root suckers. Winter hardiness low.
