Family Fabaceae. Under unfavorable conditions it is displaced by weed species. Undemanding as to soil, it develops better with sufficient, even excessive moisture. Easily tolerates inundation by surface waters, withstands stagnation of surface water. Requires two mowings per year. Often damaged by late spring frosts; in snowless winters it freezes out. Unsuitable for parterre and sports lawns.
