Family Cupressaceae. Evergreen trees or shrubs with flattened shoots and scale-like (needle-like in juvenile forms) foliage appressed to the stem.

\r\nCones at the ends of branches, consisting of 3-4 pairs of coriaceous-woody scales (the upper ones sterile). Seeds with two narrow wings; they ripen in autumn in the first year.
