Indoor plants
Tea bush
Thea sinensis
Tea family. The tea plant is of southern origin. The tea bush grows, blooms and bears fruit very well under indoor conditions. The best soil to fill the container is acidic red soils, alkaline or brown forest soils with a pH of 4.5 - 5.5.
Soil suitability is determined by applying ordinary 10% hydrochloric acid sold in pharmacies. If the soil, when the acid is applied to it, begins to foam and boil, releasing gas bubbles, this indicates a large amount of lime in it and therefore its unsuitability.
Tea is grown indoors only from seeds, with a diameter of at least 12 mm, as homogeneous as possible; exclude from the seed material broken, shriveled and cracked seeds. The seed coat should be colored dark brown and the kernel white.
Before sowing, it is desirable to place the seeds in room-temperature water for 2 - 3 days. All seeds that float are removed — they are spoiled. Seedlings usually appear 30 - 45 days after sowing.
