Standish's Thuja

Cupressaceae family. Found in Japan (Honshu island). Grows in mountains, in mixed forests at an altitude of 1000-1800 m above sea level
A green tree up to 18 m tall; bark reddish-brown, thin, peeling in thin paper-like strips; crown broadly conical; branches irregularly arranged, projecting horizontally from the trunk or slightly raised; twigs somewhat thick, flattened, green above, with triangular whitish spots below. Needles have an unpleasant smell, like spruce resin. The central leaves are blunt; the lateral ones have a short tip bent inward.
