Family Araceae. Native to Central and South America. Syngonium spreads quickly and is fairly undemanding in indoor conditions.

Knife-leaved Syngonium - Syngonium podophyllum - with light-green heart-shaped leaves about 7-13 cm long on long petioles. Leaf blade divided into 3-11 segments, usually connate. There are variegated forms that differ in the shape and coloration of the leaf markings. Does not flower under indoor conditions.

Ear-shaped Syngonium - Syngonium auritum - with dark green leaves, a glaucous stem and well-developed aerial roots at the nodes. Leaf divided into 3 to 5 segments, with a larger central segment. Distinguished by rapid growth. Sometimes flowers - inflorescence a spadix with a spathe about 5 cm long, light green with a reddish spot on the inner side.

Wendland's Syngonium - Syngonium wendlandii - with dark green leaves on long petioles, three-lobed. Central segment up to 10 cm long, lateral ones up to 15 cm. Leaf surface velvety, midrib silvery.

It is very convenient to use a moss pole as a support for syngonium; the plant will twine around it and grow upward, reaching 1.5 - 1.8 meters in height. Syngonium can be grown as a hanging (ampelous) plant by suspending the pot high, in which case the branches will hang down like a green carpet. Syngonium is also well suited for hydroponic cultivation.
