Surfinia

Family Solanaceae. Garden balcony (pendula) group, or ampelous, differs from the other types by flexible and long stems. The group has rapid growth and resistance to adverse weather. Besides balconies, it can be used for quickly decorating vacant spaces.

Surfinia is one of the cultivar groups of ampelous petunias. Ampelous petunia is singled out as a separate group due to the presence of long hanging shoots that tend to grow downward rather than upward, although the sizes of flowers of ampelous petunia varieties and hybrids differ. Initially ampelous petunias, like all others, were propagated by seed, and with the appearance in Japan of ampelous petunia varieties they have been propagated vegetatively.

The following cultivar series of ampelous petunias are currently grown worldwide:

SURFINIA. The owner of this trademark is the Japanese company "Suntory". There are many Surfinia cultivars that differ in color and size of flowers. Only bright yellow and orange surfinia are not yet available, but such varieties will likely appear in the near future. The diameter of Surfinia flowers is about 7 cm (from 6 to 9 cm), except for varieties with miniature flowers (Pink Mini, Mini Purple) measuring 5.5 cm. Baby Pink SURFINIA (SUNBAPIVE) - Pink with dark raspberry veins

Baby Soft SURFINIA (UNCHIFFON) - Pink, veins slightly darker

Patio Blue SURFINIA (KEIPABUKAS) - From violet to blue (flower changes color over time)

Pastel 2000 SURFINIA (SUNPAPI) - Soft lilac-pink

Pink Vein SURFINIA (SUNTOSOL) - Raspberry-pink with a dark throat and raspberry veins

Red SURFINIA (KEIREKUL) - Red

Sky Blue SURFINIA (KEILAVBU) - Lilac

Purple SURFINIA (SHIHI PURPLE) - Bright raspberry

White SURFINIA (KESUPITE) - White with a dark throat
