Streptocarpus

Streptocarpus

Back to catalogue
Family Gesneriaceae. Native to South America. This plant is very similar to gloxinia, but, unlike the latter, it blooms for a much longer time (all summer), has no tubers, and is also less demanding.

Streptocarpus Rex - Streptocarpus rexii - a herbaceous plant with a rosette of elongated leaves. Leaves have toothed margins, are hairy, and green in color. Flowers are borne on tall scapes about 2.5 cm in diameter. The corolla is funnel-shaped, five-lobed, light lilac in color with purple stripes. Streptocarpus Rex became the source species in the development of new hybrid cultivars, which feature brighter flower colors - pink, red, blue, lilac or pure white.

Streptocarpus is sensitive to drafts and cold air in winter. For successful flowering of streptocarpus it is important to observe all the care requirements.

Temperature: Needs warm temperatures in summer up to 25°C. In winter, from December to March, around 12-13°C, not lower.
