Light: Ruellia is light-loving but in spring and summer requires shading from the midday sun. To prolong flowering, in autumn additional lighting is used so that the day length is at least eight to nine hours.
Watering: Abundant in summer; the soil should be kept slightly moist at all times. In winter moderate, but the soil should not dry out completely.
Fertilizer: From April to August Ruellia is fed with liquid fertilizer for indoor ornamental flowering plants every two weeks.
