Family Ranunculaceae . Occurs wild in Eastern and Central Europe, in the Caucasus, and in Western Siberia.

Perennial plant up to 100 cm tall, glabrous or slightly pubescent. Lower leaves on long petioles, palmately divided; upper ones almost sessile, three-part with linear, toothed lobes. Flowers bright yellow, up to 2 cm in diameter. In cultivation since 1597 only forms with double flowers (f. hortensis Mart.). They are distinguished by large yellow flowers of various shades. Blooms in June. This is a fully hardy plant, undemanding, it can flower in partial shade. Soil should be rich and moist. It will grow well along the banks of streams and ponds. It should be dug up and divided every 4-5 years. This is done at the end of summer. Non-double forms can be propagated by seeds. Freshly collected seeds are sown in autumn.
