Morrow's Sedge

Family Cyperaceae. This species originated in Japan. An evergreen perennial forming a continuous dark-green cover.
Growing up to 20 cm tall. Diameter of an individual clump up to 35 cm. Leaves are broad, arching. The cultivar `Variegata` has narrow creamy-white stripes along the edges and is the most common sedge in cultivation. Flowers in June–July. Prefers shady to semi-shady, moderately warm locations. Soil should be moist and humus-rich. Does not tolerate either dry or overly waterlogged soils. Propagated by division. Suitable companions - Epimedium, Hosta, Tiarella.
