Appearance: a very attractive upright shrub, up to 2 m in height and width, dense, very slow-growing.
Flowers: numerous, large, pure white, blooms before the leaves unfold.
Fruits: glossy black cherries, about 1 cm in diameter, edible.
Leaves: broadly elliptic, elongated, pointed, dark green, bright red in autumn, shed in September.
Requirements: sun, prefers warmth, winter-hardy, requires protection from wind.
Soils: relatively dry or moist, from acidic to alkaline, on any well-drained substrates.
