Plum Chachakskaya – a late-ripening cultivar of Serbian selection, bred at the Horticulture Institute in Čačak in 1961. It began to gain popularity from 1975. Patented in 1991.
It forms a vigorous tree with a broadly pyramidal crown of medium density. Begins fruiting early, in the 2nd-3rd year after planting. It fruits well and annually. Upon entering bearing, yields can reach 17 t/ha.
Fruits are medium to large, 50-60 g, ovoid or ovate-ovoid in shape, very attractive. Skin of medium thickness, dark blue, abundantly covered with a light bluish bloom. Flesh greenish-yellow, very firm, fairly juicy, aromatic, of excellent taste. Taste score of fresh fruits – 4.6 points. Stone elongated, separates well from the flesh. The suture is well pronounced, dividing the fruit into two equal parts. Fruits have good transportability and can also be stored in a refrigerator for 2-3 weeks without losing their marketable appearance and taste. Fruits ripen 3-5 days earlier than the Stanley plum (in the second and third decades of August).
The cultivar is self-sterile. Best pollinators: Чачакская ранняя, Стенлей, Чачакская липотика, Ruth Gerstetter
Frost resistance: Moderate frost resistance, low hardiness of flower buds.
Location: prefers sunny sites. Soil should be moist loam, well drained.
Planting, pruning and care: similar to those for the domestic plum.
Diseases and pests: resistance to powdery mildew and rust is moderate, to moniliosis high, tolerant to sharka (plum pox).
Usage: fruits are consumed fresh, used for making jams, preserves, juices, and prunes. Cultivar intended for commercial production.
