Fruit trees
Sweet cherry
Prunus aviura
Family Rosaceae. Widely distributed not only in cultivation but also in the wild in Southern Europe, on the Balkan Peninsula, in Asia Minor, Iran, and the Caucasus.
Sweet cherry, like its close relative the sour cherry, belongs to the Rosaceae family. However, the sweet cherry has several advantages.
First, thanks to its majestic crowns, leaves of various shades, and bright fruits, it is ornamental not only in spring but throughout the summer. It has a rich palette of colors - from pale pink and yellow to almost white, from bright and dark red to nearly black.
Second, unlike the sour cherry, the sweet cherry does not suffer from coccomycosis and moniliosis.
Third, pests do not like it much and attack only in drought years. And finally, sweet cherries are much tastier and healthier than sour cherries.
