Derived from: hybrid Д-54-82 (Дончанка × Валерий Чкалов) and the variety Джерело

Cherry Proshchalnaya – a mid-early maturing cherry variety. Bred at the Artemovsk Experimental Horticulture Station by breeder L.I. Taranenko.

It is a medium-vigour tree with a rounded or broadly rounded, somewhat spreading dense crown. Blooming time - medium. Bears fruit on bouquet twigs and last year’s shoots. Begins fruiting in years 4–5. Yield is high and stable - 166.1 centners/ha. Up to 10 years it produces 50–60 kg per tree, older – 80–100 kg.

The fruits are very large, weighing 12–14 g, round, slightly flattened, dark red in color. Flesh somewhat cartilaginous, firm, of excellent wine-sweet flavor. Tasting score 4.2–4.5 points. Fruits ripen in mid-June. Good transportability.

Best pollinators: Дрогана желтая, донецкая красавица, Ярославна, донецкий уголек, Валерий Чкалов, Аннушка, Валерия, Аэлита, Сестренка, Ранняя розовинка, Этика.

Frost resistance: higher than Дрогана желтая.

Site location: not demanding of growing conditions.

Planting, care and pruning: similar to those for sweet cherry or bird cherry.

Diseases and pests: high resistance to coccomycosis (cherry scab).

Uses: The variety is recommended for cultivation in the steppe and forest-steppe regions of Ukraine. Consumed fresh, and can also be used for preparing high-quality compotes and juices.
