Cherry plum

Prunus

Back to catalogue

Family Rosaceae. The cherry plum's native range is the Caucasus, the Balkans, and Western and Central Asia. Even in the mid-20th century it did not become established in our latitudes.

But after the cherry plum was crossed with the Chinese plum, which withstands 50°C frost, it appeared in our gardens and proved to be an extremely undemanding plant - it rarely gets sick, is not afraid of pests or frosts, and moreover yields abundant harvests.

Moreover, it is gradually moving northwards - some varieties are undergoing trials in the Far East.

If you are going to buy cherry plum seedlings, you should take only those grown in your region. If you live, say, in the temperate zone, varieties from more southern areas may not survive the winter.
