Flowers for the garden
Shining cinquefoil
Potentilla nitida L.
Family Rosaceae. Grows: in the eastern and southern regions of the limestone and dolomitic Alps and the Apennines.
An extremely decorative combination of dark pink petals and the silvery foliage carpet that forms their background. Unfortunately, in cultivation it flowers less well than in the wild. It requires a dry spot with southern exposure and good drainage. It should be planted in a hollow or on a limestone scree in a sunny location. The soil should be sandy, with humus and a large amount of limestone gravel.
