Potentilla nepalensis Hook.
Family Rosaceae. Native range: Western Himalayas, Nepal.
A perennial herbaceous plant up to 50 cm tall. Stems erect, branched, purple. Leaves large, palmate, up to 30 cm long, dark green. Flowers fairly large, 2.5-3 cm in diameter, pale pink with darker veins, or red, arranged in paniculate inflorescences. Blooms from early July for 50-55 days. In cultivation since 1820.
Has a number of very attractive hybrid cultivars, the most widespread are:
'Miss Wilmott' ('Miss Wilmott') - flowers cherry-pink with a dark eye, blooms very profusely and for a long time;
'Roxana' ('Roxana') - flowers salmon-orange with thin dark veins.
