Family Rosaceae. Native range: - China, Mongolia, Siberia. In steppes, on rocky, gravelly slopes, on the edges of pine forests. Grows on alpine meadows at elevations of 500-3000 m.

Stems 1-6 cm long, form mats. Basal leaves ternate, like the whole plant covered with a dense felt of stellate hairs mixed with long simple hairs; wedge- to obovate, rounded in the upper part, obtusely toothed, in the lower part entire-margined. Flowers 10-17 mm in diameter, numbering 1-4; the calyx is 1.5-2 times shorter than the corolla. The outer oblong sepals are shorter than the oblong-ovate inner ones. Achenes wrinkled.

Requires a sunny position with moist, slightly humus-rich, well-drained soil. Seeds are sown in spring; germinate at 18-21 °C over 1-3 months. Can be propagated by cuttings at the end of summer.
