Polyscias
Polyscias
Family Araliaceae. Native to the tropical regions of South and East Asia. About 80 species occur in the wild. Cultivated species include:
Polyscias Balfour - Polyscias balfouriana - a shrub with leathery dark green leaflets of rounded shape, covered with light green or gray speckles, about 5-7 cm in diameter. Some cultivars have a white or yellowish margin along the leaf edge.
Shrubby Polyscias - Polyscias fruticosa - a tall shrub with bi- and tri-pinnate leaves. Leaf segments range from rounded to narrowly lanceolate, with a toothed margin. It flowers with small inconspicuous whitish flowers. Variegated-leaf cultivars — having a white margin along the leaf edge — are especially striking.
Temperature: Polyscias prefers a moderate to warm climate. In summer about 22°C. In winter about 18-20°C, minimum 16°C.
Light: Bright, diffused light, light partial shade. Contrary to the plant's name, Polyscias grows better in a very bright place protected from direct sun.
Watering: Polyscias is watered moderately in summer and sparingly in winter. In summer water when the soil has dried well; in winter when the soil is almost completely dry. Water for watering should be soft.
Fertilizer: From May to August feed with a balanced fertilizer for ornamental foliage plants every 2 weeks.
