Eastern knotweed

An annual herbaceous plant up to 200 cm tall. Flowers small, red, borne in paniculate, drooping inflorescences. It bears fruit. Grows well in deeply cultivated, fertile, moist soil. Propagated by sowing seeds in late May in its permanent place. Used to decorate walls, fences and to create the background of mixed borders. In cultivation since 1700.
