Back to catalogue
Family buckwheat. A showy but little-known annual plant possesses a quality rare among annuals - it quickly covers the soil.

Knotweed is warmth-loving, moisture-loving, grows well in the sun. When grown in partial shade the leaves acquire a less decorative coloration. A strongly branched, creeping plant 10 - 15 cm high, with small leaves that have reddish stripes and spots on a green background. Small round inflorescences 1 - 1.5 cm in diameter are made up of small light-pink flowers and are located slightly above the leaves. Decorative from June until the first frosts. Propagated by seeds and cuttings. 1 g contains 1300 - 1400 seeds; to obtain 100 plants you need 0.2 - 0.3 g of seeds. Seeds are sown for seedlings in March - April in pots. Seedlings appear after 10 - 14 days. Transplant to open ground in early June at a spacing of 15-20 cm. Watering is required when the soil dries out. Fertilizing is done during the growth period with complex fertilizers 2-3 times. Undemanding in care. Knotweed can be used to make a beautiful border (it tolerates pruning well), planted in a mixed border to fill an empty spot, in a garden urn or container where the shoots will hang down slightly. Finally, it is suitable for pot culture.
