Plumeria
Plumeria
Family Kutrovykh. Native to the tropics and subtropics of Central and South America. This is an ornamental flowering greenhouse plant of fairly large size - in the wild it reaches 5 m in height, under domestic conditions about 2 m.
Red plumeria - Plumeria rubra - an evergreen shrub with thick succulent shoots. Leaves on long petioles, elongate-oblong in shape, pointed at the tip, clustered at the ends of the shoots. Leaves are leathery with well-defined veins. Flowers form only on young branches, so the plant can be pruned only after flowering has finished. Flowers are gathered in corymb-like inflorescences of 15-20 flowers. The corolla is five-petaled, about 5 cm in diameter.
Temperature: In summer within 20-25°C, in winter optimal conditions at 16-18°C, minimum 14°C.
Lighting: Plumeria is light-loving; in summer it needs full sun exposure, but during the hottest hours of the day shading will be required.
Watering: Abundant during the summer period; the soil should not dry out. From autumn to early spring watering is considerably more moderate, but is not stopped even if the plant drops its leaves.
Air humidity: Likes humid air, so plumeria is periodically misted, but so that water does not get on the flowers.
