It is a small shrub, 3–5 m in height and 1 m in diameter, with a narrowly conical or conical crown shape. Crown dense, symmetrical. Annual growth 22–25 cm. Bark gray-black in color. Needles dense, long, 10–12 cm in length, thin, falcate, twisted, arranged radially. On older branches they are a deep green color, on young shoots – shorter, tightly appressed, grassy green in color. Cones large, up to 8 cm long, yellow-brown in color.

Hardiness zone 5b.

Position: the plant is light-loving; in places with slight shading it loses the crown shape. Not demanding regarding soil. Does not tolerate waterlogging. Tolerant of urban conditions.

Use: Used in rock, heather and Japanese gardens, singly and in group plantings, on slopes, on retaining walls, on forest edges, singly on lawns, in hedges.
