Fruit trees

Pomeranets or Bitter Orange or Bigaradia

Physocarpos

Back to catalogue

Family Rutaceae. Native to the Eastern Himalayas. An evergreen small tree of the genus Citrus up to 1 m in height with large thorns on the branches. The fruits are round, orange-red with sour-bitter pulp. The pomeranets is used as a rootstock for other citrus.

Cultivation practices do not differ from the care of other citrus. Unlike lemon and sweet orange, the pomeranets is less demanding of soil and more drought-resistant. The plant prefers light and moisture. It needs a sunny location; in summer it is advisable to move the plant outdoors. In winter keep it in a cool bright room at 4-6 °C.
