Family Saxifragaceae. In the wild it is found on the rocky slopes of hills in the southern Far East.

Perennial rhizomatous plant with creeping stems that root and are slightly embedded in the soil. Leaves smaller than in other species, elliptic, cuneately narrowed toward the base or blunt, rounded at the apex, light green, glossy, evergreen, up to 25 cm in diameter. Overwintered leaves die off gradually throughout the growing season. Flowering stem reddish, fleshy, somewhat ribbed, up to 40 cm tall, with one scale-like leaf or without it. Inflorescence branched paniculate, rounded in shape, composed of a large number of bright pink flowers with a lilac tint. Blooms in May for 2–3 weeks. Fruits in June–July; seeds small. Prefers a lighter location than other species. In cultivation since 1911.
