Family Oxalidaceae. Native to tropical, subtropical and temperate regions on all continents. About 800 species of this genus occur in the wild. These are small herbaceous perennials and annuals.

Oxalis deppei (Deppe's wood sorrel) - Oxalis deppei - a small stemless plant with a dark-brown bulb and underground shoots. Leaves on thin, long petioles, 4-6 in a rosette. Leaves palmately compound, of four segments, each segment obcordate (inversely heart-shaped), up to 3.5 cm long, with a notch at the apex and finely serrated at the margin. Leaves light green with a purple spot in the center; they fold at night. Flowers up to 2 cm in diameter, red or with a violet tinge, with a yellow throat, arranged in an umbel-like inflorescence. Fruit a capsule.
