Family Hyacinthaceae Native range - Northeastern China.

Plant with broadly ovate-cordate or nearly rounded-cordate, shortly acuminate, dark green leaves, glossy beneath, up to 25 cm long and up to 20 cm wide. Scapes large, up to 120 cm tall, leafless. Inflorescence lax, somewhat one-sided. Flowers lilac, nodding, about 5 cm long. Blooms in July–August. In cultivation since 1790. Has varieties and cultivars with different coloration of the leaves and flowers. In the photograph Hosta ventricosa var. minor (H. ventricosa var. minor).
