Hyacinth family. Grows on Sakhalin, the southern Kuril Islands, and in Japan (the islands of Hokkaido and Honshu).

Plants are rather robust, densely tufted, without a waxy bloom. Leaves are almost vertically oriented, up to 17-20 cm long and 6-10 cm wide, ovate-lanceolate, thick, dark green, matte, on long, broadly winged petioles. Scapes greatly exceed the leaves, 60 (90) cm tall, leafless. Inflorescence long, loose, many-flowered. Flowers nodding, 3.5-5 cm long. Perianth funnel-shaped, purple. Blooms in summer. Little known in cultivation.
