Family Hyacinthaceae. Originated in cultivation in Japan; widely distributed in Europe.

A species of garden origin. Curly Hosta (Н. crispula) native to Japan. Forms dense thickets. Leaves up to 16 cm long, 6–10 cm wide, cordate-ovate, gradually tapering, with a narrow slightly twisted tip. Leaf margins wavy. The upper surface of the leaves is green and matte, the underside glossy with a broad white margin. The leaf blade has 7–9 pairs of veins. Scapes are thin, 50–80 cm tall, rising well above the leaves. Bract leaves are ovate-elliptic, 1.5–2 cm long, pale greenish-yellow, almost flat, horizontally deflected. The inflorescence is lax, one-sided. The lower flowers are spaced far apart. There are 30–40 flowers in an inflorescence. Their length reaches 4–5 cm. Flowers are funnel-shaped, with strongly spreading petals, violet, shiny on the outside. Anthers are yellow at first, later violet. Flowering is not abundant. This plant is widely cultivated. It forms large stands, although it spreads slowly. Flowers in July–August. Grows slowly, but with age forms large masses.
