Neoregelia
Neoregelia
Family Bromeliaceae. Native to Brazil. A fairly widespread plant valued by bromeliad enthusiasts for the beauty of its leaves. Neoregelia spreads widely, so it requires a lot of space; it is best placed on a separate stand near a window. The Neoregelia 'Carolina' is especially beautiful.
Its leaves reach 40 cm in length and 5 cm in width, have a light-yellow stripe along the leaf margin, the center of the rosette is colored carmine-red, and its flowers are blue. It should be noted that the center of the rosette reddens just before Neoregelia flowers.
It should be noted that Neoregelia is a fairly undemanding plant for indoor cultivation and tolerates dry air quite well.
Temperature: Normal room temperature about 22-25°C in summer, cool 16-20°C in winter, minimum winter temperature 13°C.
Light: Light-loving, with protection from direct sun in hot periods of the day in summer. In winter a particularly bright room is needed. The best location is very close to a south-facing window or on an east or west windowsill.
Watering: Like all bromeliads, Neoregelia is watered directly into the leaf rosette. The water must be well-settled and at room temperature. In spring and summer the water in the leaf rosette should always be present and should be refreshed at least once a month with fresh water. If the plant is kept in winter at temperatures below 17°C, it is better to water the soil rather than leave water in the rosette. Watering in this case is moderate — about once every 7-10 days, i.e., when the soil has dried.
