Description: The genus includes about 40 species of perennial herbaceous grasses, distributed in the tropical and subtropical zones of Asia, Africa and Australia.

Growth habit: tufted, height 70-110 cm. Leaf narrow, linear, green, turning yellow in autumn. Inflorescences brown, inconspicuous, in panicles. Flowers in July-September. Stems turn yellow in autumn. The cultivar 'Transparent' is shown in the photograph
