Family Myrtaceae. Native range - tropical and subtropical regions, mainly the coastal areas of Central America, Australia, New Zealand, the Hawaiian Islands, the Philippines, etc. About 50 species of evergreen trees or shrubs occur in nature.

Metrosideros polymorpha - a broad, branched shrub; the trunk is smooth light gray when young, darkening with age. Leaves are oval, up to 7-8 cm long and 5-6 cm wide, stiff, dark green on the upper side, gray-blue beneath. Flowers mainly from spring until late summer. Flowers are usually bright red, may be orange-red, salmon, or pink. Native to Hawaii.
Metrosideros excelsa - a tall tree, in nature reaching up to 23 m in height. Leaves elliptic, about 10 cm long and 5 cm wide, stiff, dark green, tapering to a point. Stems and the underside of the leaves are covered with dense white felt-like pubescence. Flowers usually orange-red, gathered in many-flowered inflorescences. Native to New Zealand.



Temperature: Moderate in summer, cool in winter, between 8-12°C.

Lighting: Full sun. Shading is not required.
